BAIA MARE, ROMANIA – Softvisioners from our Baia Mare Studio in Romania continue to come up with new ideas for ways to have fun together after work, while bonding and learning new things.

The Handmade Workshop idea was born after some creative thinking while trying to come up with “something else” to do after office hours. At first, it was supposed to be a one-time charitable event, but the workshop was such a big success it became a recurring gathering.

Read on to learn more about our Baia Mare Softvisioners’ gatherings, and try some of these activities with your colleagues!

Modeling Polymer Clay
The first workshop was planned to celebrate a Romanian spring tradition called “Martisor,” where men/boys offer women/girls/mothers a symbol of spring – a small object with a red-white silk cord, which they wear as a brooch on their clothes between the 1st and 8th of March.

Simona Nagy, QA Manual, organized this first workshop and taught her colleagues how to create such objects by modelling polymer clay. All these beautiful and unique creations were sold within the company, and all the money was donated to an animal shelter. The participants had a lot of fun and discovered a new hobby!

Decoupage Technique
Since the first edition was such a success, several colleagues quickly started planning the next event around the idea of trying something new. The second workshop was meant to celebrate Easter, to create beautiful objects for decorating the dining table, the dining room, even the entire house, for the coming holiday. The “artists” watched some tutorials to learn how to perform the decoupage technique, came up with tips and tricks, and turned simple objects, like wooden boxes, frames and plates, glass bottles and jars, and wooden eggs into wonderful creations! They enjoyed another great and colorful workshop, had fun together and acquired new skills!

Rock Painting
In May, with the guidance of QA Manual, Oana Botisan, several Softvisioners are planning to try something even more courageous – colorful painting on river stones, mandala, or even creating small scenes with the painted rocks.

Participants in these Handmade Workshops will continue to upload pictures from the workshops on Workplace, where Softvisioners connect from around the world. Who knows, maybe they will inspire more people and, one day, create a global “handmade community” in Cognizant Softvision where people will be able to exchange ideas, give tips and tricks from their personal experiences, learn about other countries’ traditions, and show everybody that being a logical, technical person doesn’t make you less creative.
