At Cognizant Softvision, one of the goals for each studio is to become relevant players in the local digital community – becoming the go-to space for meetups, open trainings, pre-employment programs and inspirational tech talks.
The Hudson Yards Studio in New York recently hosted a joint event with the NYC Scrum community. The night started off with networking allowing participants with a variety of backgrounds including technical and project management, to spend time getting to know each other. Afterwards, event attendees listened to an engaging discussion from JJ Sutherland, CEO of Scrum Inc, on the use of Scrum beyond software. Sutherland gave examples from several industries including the medical field and the USmilitary on how Scrum and the use of Agile can land complex projects and successfully transform organizations.
Sutherland introduced participants to the Scrum Fieldbook based on his years of experience in the field with companies such as Bosch, 3M, Schlumberger, and Saab. Some key points made by Sutherland during the event covered:
- Conway’s Law: “Organizations which design systems are constrained to produce designs which are copies of the communication structures of these organizations” – Conway, 1967.
- Brooks’ Law: “Adding manpower to a late software project makes it later.”
- Cuckoo Effect: “Any foreign innovation in a corporation will stimulate the corporate immune system to create antibodies that destroy it.”
Attendees were inspired to discover their own patterns for success while delving into the specific challenges and new opportunities of an Agile world.
Thank you to all of those who were able to attend! We look forward to hosting similar events in the coming months at the Hudson Yards studio.
