February 15, 2019 – Softvision Candle sought out to support education in government schools via a book drive. The “Gift a Book” team donated nearly 500 books covering a myriad topics to a local school. The wide range of books help to kick start a mini library facility at the school.
The Softvision Candle team headed to Bhagini Seva Samaj, a school that was started in 1923 during the pre-independence era. Annie Besant, a leading women’s rights and national movement activist, laid the foundation for this school.
The Bhagini Seva Samaj school has nearly 350 students who are aided by the government and only collects a nominal fee of 20-50 rupees from students. This is mainly to support the students who are mostly from socially and economically disadvantaged communities.
The team felt an immense sense of pride and satisfaction to see the smiling faces of the students at the school. We are confident this initiative will benefit a large number of kids.
Nithya Somaiah, HR Manager and Lead of the CSR Committee, said:
“I feel ‘Education is the only way that can lead the child toward success,’ and this initiative of ours will certainly encourage the kids. And definitely it was amazing to see the kids with smiles on their faces, holding these books in hand.”
The Softvision Candle team looks forward to continuing our mission to improve the lives and education of children with initiatives such as this.
