We opened the first Bucharest studio in 2013 and since then we’ve seen many changes. At the beginning of 2020, we launched a new studio, TNO3 on Timpuri Noi Square, countless new colleagues have joined us and due to COVID-19, we’ve been required to work from home for a good majority of the year.
I joined the company in the first quarter of 2019 and I’d like to describe what my first experience was like a little after joining, the typical integration period into a new culture. At first, perhaps like other new employees joining a company for the first time, I was very observant, evaluating everything.
What I saw was a great company, having in place great operations, great culture, great people, great customers, great projects, but I also saw some limitations that were restraining potential. How could I generate change while at the same time recognize and help the management team become aware of the issues and institute a plan to generate these changes? What had to be done became quite obvious, a “build it and they will come” sort-of approach. Our main objective was (and will continue to be) to grow in Romania, more specifically our Bucharest studio. In Cluj-Napoca, the historical HQ, the company had around 800 employees at the time, while in Bucharest there were only 120 people.
I would define the high-level solution to our main challenge as this: remove as many limitations as possible and let us be more visible, since our value is already here.
Of course, this was not easy, but I had the chance of having great colleagues here in Bucharest. Everyone rallied together – I saw tremendous efforts in all the departments during 2019, especially in the HR department trying to showcase what Cognizant Softvision really was in Bucharest. Another essential contribution was the support we had from the other Cognizant Softvision studios in Cluj-Napoca, Baia Mare, Iasi, and Timișoara. We acted like a real national team, understanding where we needed to get involved and contributing as much as possible.
And the results are outstanding – in a year and a half we’ve:
- Doubled the size of the Bucharest team
- Opened a new studio in ‘Timpuri Noi’ Offices building
- Extended our portfolio of customers and projects
- Redefined ourselves both as physical and virtual teams, and much more
We’re growing and continuing the learning journey. Today, we currently have several major changes under discussion that would allow us to work better, be happier while maintaining our digital personality and expertise.
Celebrating a big milestone
In addition to our institutional changes and discussions happening, we’re celebrating an amazing milestone – 300 colleagues in our Bucharest studio! This celebration reflects how much we’ve grown as a team.
Here’s to many more!
How We Work
Our studio is part of a multi-dimensional approach we have at Cognizant Softvision. We have the community layer, where the community managers have as one of the main objectives the professional evolution of the people in the community. You can see here new technologies, career growth, research and development projects.
We have the delivery layer, ensuring the success of our customer projects.
And last, but not least we have the studio layer, which is essentially responsible for orchestrating the activity of the local departments – HR, PR, IT, Communities and so on – so that the specifics of the local studio are considered and the objectives are reached.
How it Feels to be part of the Local Team and the Global Community
I think especially for us, as Romanians and IT specialists, is important to grow, to evolve. And, I believe that a contributing factor to happiness in a career is linked to what the local team and the global community have to offer. It may be a CSR project run locally, or an IoT project run nationally – but whatever the project may be, a community is where people can find opportunities to learn, either from experts in the field or from other colleagues, across communities.
On top of this, our colleagues are speakers for national or international events, so they are real thought leaders, with some participating in our own major technical event, Programmers’ Week, which just so happened to wrap it’s 6th edition on September 18, 2020.
Being a part of a community at Cognizant Softvision means to be part of a great movement.
Key Moments in Review
The current year was, as you know, a challenging time for everyone because of the pandemic. We had to celebrate things from afar – not with each other. But, it made us reflect on our great moments we did have together like:
- “The 200th Lucky Colleague” Celebration
- Monthly barbecues in our garden at the Uruguay studio
- Yearly team building activities where we combined the parties with team activities or we awarded the colleagues that were nominated for having an outstanding team player approach
A Growing Team
Based on my knowledge, and in my opinion, if you compare the software companies presently in Bucharest to ours, Cognizant Softvision is the one – The place to be – with the most impressive set-up for developing employees. Usually, software companies’ dedication to employee growth varies from zero to some time allocated for self-learning, to some training or workshops here and there presented by the senior experts, or some external training and certifications.
But, Cognizant Softvision has enhanced all that to a level of excellence – of mastery. We have all that other companies provide, and more. We have a structured approach of constant research and learning of new technologies. Our objective is to help companies respond to any customer demand in the digital field for even the most complex technologies. This approach helps also every person in the team to grow, to constantly learn, to use their creativity.
But don’t take my word for it! Discover more through a discussion with our community managers who would be happy to share more about our projects and technologies. Let’s connect on Linkedin or send me an email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
