Leading multimedia retailer focuses aim at connecting all readers, not just current customers

Cognizant Softvision partners with a leading retail destination for books, eBooks, magazines, and other related multimedia products to develop a completely reimagined user experience

Our client is one of the leading retailers of all content, digital media and educational products operating in 50 states throughout the US and as one of the premier e-commerce sites for digital content and multimedia. The company sells over close to 200 million physical books every year through both retail stores and online operations.

CHALLENGE

The company has a number of different apps on the market focused on a variety of different things including, e-commerce, an audiobook listening app, a digital reading app and an app focused on creating a community with like-minded individuals with similar reading interests. While all of these apps are unique in their own way, our client needed a way to showcase all of their offerings within one application that would not only enhance the digital experience, empowering users to engage and connect with others readers, but also motivate users enough to participate in the community, shifting from an e-commerce centric app to a reader centric app and ultimately introducing the entire ecosystem of the brand.


COGNIZANT SOFTVISION’S SOLUTION

The Cognizant Softvision team was approached with a high level concept: create a new app, merge features of existing apps together and create a user interface that would bring it all together. Unsure of how to execute, the company selected Cognizant Softvision for our ability to build a human-centered app better than any other partner they met with. Our approach, was simple: pull in the right experts from our Guilds to build a high-performing team called a Pod, that would enable a quick delivery and go-to-market solution.

To ensure our engineered outcome is a cohesive, unified platform our product and design teams are held to the same KPIs, measuring on velocity, quality, product impact, and autonomy allowing for a seamless transition upon rollout.

WHAT’S TO COME

The newly redesigned web app created by Cognizant Softvision completely transforms the current user experience of having to access all the existing apps independently. For example, to access the community engagement app, users had to log into that account to connect with other readers as well as the digital reading app and audiobook app. The lack of connectivity between the apps created not only a frustrating user experience, but an experience that lacked in brand unity. One of the contributing guilds to the pod, our Design & UX Guild, worked closely with the company designer to define new features, but also understand and identify the current user journey gaps which would help shape the new experience.

The enhanced app creates an opportunity for not just current customers, but all readers to connect through community without having to access separate apps, encouraging them to find other titles they may be interested in depending upon current reads/listens and interactions with other community members.

Cognizant Softvision looks forward to continuing the momentum with our client on continually updating and maintaining the app, both which have never been regularly instituted.
