A global financial services firm worked with Cognizant and Pivotal to transform its applications from monolithic to cloud native. The team of cloud native developers, architects and product managers worked together to build an end-to-end product focused solution that reduces maintenance costs and improves business productivity. The services arm of the PaaS (platform as a service) is supported by Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF), which speeds application modernization by automating the provisioning of resources to developers, as well as progression of the code from development to testing, quality assurance and production.
Financial services companies operate in an ever-tougher competitive landscape. To survive and thrive, they must out-innovate the competition. A global financial services firm worked with Cognizant’s banking technology team and Pivotal to achieve this goal by transforming monolithic, difficult-to-use applications to cloud-native applications.
The Cognizant Approach
To overcome the challenges, Cognizant took over the existing behind-schedule application consolidation effort and set up a product-focused engineering team. The team used Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF) as a platform as a service (PaaS) to speed application modernization and Extreme Programming practices, such as pair programming, to boost quality. This method moved the code into production as soon as it was ready, even before the preplanned milestone date.
The coordinated efforts of the team—made up of staff from the client, Cognizant and Pivotal Labs—enabled them to make quick changes based on feedback, prioritize work and train the client on the Pivotal platform.
